Trauma

Trauma Therapy

Trauma can rear itself as panic attacks and flashbacks, but it can affect people in other ways, too. Every person responds to a stressful event or experience uniquely. At Mystic Therapy in Groton, offering telehealth visits in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Indiana, the goal of therapy with Danielle Drugan for PTSD and other trauma-related mental health issues is healing in body and mind.

Letting Go of Traumatic Responses

The negative feelings and thoughts you're having today don't have to embed themselves into tomorrow. Through therapy, you and Danielle will work through the physical responses, worries, and negative behaviors, and convert them into positive ones. You'll become your best self, one you may not have known was still possible after trauma.

You'll deal with your inner conflicts and ease your symptoms, allowing you to set new goals for yourself with greater clarity and confidence.

Knowing if Trauma Affected You

All too often, PTSD and other trauma-related mental health issues develop a stigma. Therefore, if you don't have trauma from a commonly-acknowledged type of situation and aren't experiencing the "classic" symptoms, you may feel it's not truly trauma. However, this is far from the truth. Trauma is a subjective. Some prime examples where it can come from include, but are not limited to:

  • Being in a car accident
  • Undergoing a major surgery or extended medical treatment
  • Physical or sexual abuse now or as a child
  • Growing up with parents who abused a substance
  • Experiencing neglect as a child
  • Living through a natural disaster
  • Entering battle or watching war

And if you're wondering if the traumatic event or experience has impacted you, some signs it has are as follows:

  • Experiencing flashbacks
  • Having distressing memories
  • Practicing avoidance (avoiding people, places, or thoughts of the trauma)
  • Blame
  • Guilt
  • Being detached from others
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Having mood swings or outbursts of anger
  • Being frequently anxious
  • Feeling depressed

Danielle Drugan's Approach

Danielle can help you find your inner peace by setting goals and focusing on solutions. Rather than concentrating on thought patterns that make you feel helpless, your treatment will be about recognizing your strength. You'll learn how to center your energy on positivity and resolve challenges standing in the way. You may also learn trauma-informed yoga and relaxation techniques that will help release stress from your body, allowing you to come down from the fight-or-flight response.

Let Danielle Drugan guide you on a path to peace without trauma holding you back. You'll learn how to be more mindful, and in return, the unwanted symptoms of trauma, including PTSD, will be reduced. You'll become a more resilient version of yourself.
